Esther 2:19-23

Relax, Read and Reflect

Prayer- Lord, Open our hearts and open our minds and help us learn. Go-Fight-Win. Amen

Mordecai Uncovers a Conspiracy

19 When the virgins were assembled a second time, Mordecai was sitting at the king’s gate. 20 But Esther had kept secret her family background and nationality just as Mordecai had told her to do, for she continued to follow Mordecai’s instructions as she had done when he was bringing her up.

21 During the time Mordecai was sitting at the king’s gate, Bigthana[a] and Teresh, two of the king’s officers who guarded the doorway, became angry and conspired to assassinate King Xerxes. 22 But Mordecai found out about the plot and told Queen Esther, who in turn reported it to the king, giving credit to Mordecai. 23 And when the report was investigated and found to be true, the two officials were impaled on poles. All this was recorded in the book of the annals in the presence of the king

Mordecai lurks around the gates of the palace to check up on Esther. As he does, he hears the guards conspire to kill Xerxes. Mordecai sees this as an opportunity to help Esther, (after all- of Xerxes is dead, Esther would be killed or worse.)
When Esther ratted the guards out- she gave credit to Mordecai. She could have easily taken the full credit- but who would have really benefited. She was already queen.
Punishment in Persia is rough. The guards were stuck on poles to die- Ouch!

1. What was Mordecai doing lurking about?
2. Why did he go through Esther?
3. Why would Esther give credit to her Uncle?

Prayer- Lord, help us remember that you do great things through all of us. Let us always be aware of opportunities to lift each other up. Go-Fight-Win. Amen.
