Esther 1:21-22

Relax, Read and Reflect

Prayer- Lord, Open our hearts and open our minds and help us learn. Go-Fight-Win. Amen.

21 The king and his nobles were pleased with this advice, so the king did as Memukan proposed. 22 He sent dispatches to all parts of the kingdom, to each province in its own script and to each people in their own language, proclaiming that every man should be ruler over his own household, using his native tongue.

Remember from last lesson that the Queen had disobeyed her king. The king and nobles were afraid the women of the lands would rise up against their husbands so Memukan proposed Queen Vashti be deposed.
In order to keep caos from sweeping the land, Husbands were ordered to be ruler over his house, and the queen be sent away.
Maybe this sounded good at the time, but really who is in control of a household? If it is a mortal man- we are in trouble.

Questions:
1. Couldn't Xerxes control his own household? he controlled most of the world.
2. What did this really mean in family life?
3. Was that a change?

Prayer- Lord, Help us remember that you are in control. We surrender power and authority. Help us guide and establish the best home we can. Go-Fight-Win. Amen
