Romans 8:12-17

Relax, Read and Reflect

Prayer- Lord, Open our hearts and open our minds and help us learn. Go-Fight-Win. Amen.

12Therefore, brothers, we have an obligation—but it is not to the sinful nature, to live according to it. 13For if you live according to the sinful nature, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live, 14because those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. 15For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship.[

] And by him we cry, "Abba,[b] Father." 16The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's children. 17Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.

When we accept Christ into our lives, we become His children, we are "adopted" by God. That is what Paul refers to as "sonship," In roman law, when a person was adopted by a family, he gave up all ties and rights to his former family, they basically no longer existed-wiped clean.

So when we cry out to God, and ask him into our lives, our sinful past is gone. Through the adoption by Christ our past has been "wiped clean." We are now heirs to a new family, a new life. A life eternal with God.

Prayer- Lord, thank you for taking us, for adopting us into your family. Go-Fight-Win. Amen.
