Alumni Bible Study

A Bible study initially set up for alumni of the Senior Sunday School Class at the First United Methodist Church of Lufkin, Texas. It is our hope and our prayer that this study touches the hearts of those who participate and helps spread the love and grace of Our Lord and God. All who want to learn more about God are welcome

Matthew 5:6-7

Relax, Read and Reflect
Prayer- Lord, Open our hearts and open our minds and help us learn. Go-Fight-Win. Amen.
6Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. 7Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.
What is righteousness? It is justice, wisdom, doing the right thing. How radical would it be if we thirsted, really desired to do the right thing? We basically want to do right, but if we see that others are wronged, we want to see what it will cost us if we get involved. Christ says if we have this drive and desire to do the right thing- no matter what, we will be fulfilled. He does not say when, He says it will happen. That is one of the challenges following Christ, we do not know his time line.
Do you show mercy? Do you forgive those who wrong you? I mean really do you wrong? This is tough. Guess what, man (all of us,) routinely deny Jesus, we kill him daily. Don’t you want mercy from God? Again, this is a radical idea. It doesn’t seem to fit our society, but if WE all lived this way the world would be a better world. Do not despair, heaven will be full of righteousness and mercy.
Prayer- God help us show mercy as you show mercy to us. Let us thirst do do what is right, help us follow you. Go-Fight-Win. Amen.
Viva Jesus!
