Alumni Bible Study

A Bible study initially set up for alumni of the Senior Sunday School Class at the First United Methodist Church of Lufkin, Texas. It is our hope and our prayer that this study touches the hearts of those who participate and helps spread the love and grace of Our Lord and God. All who want to learn more about God are welcome

Matthew 7:9-12

Relax, Read and Reflect
Prayer- Lord, Open our hearts and open our minds and help us learn. Go-Fight-Win. Amen.
9"Which of you, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? 10Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? 11If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him! 12So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.
This lesson follows the one on asking and receiving. This is NOT about snake handling or getting stoned. In the examples Christ uses, the snake and rock are evil gifts, and where does evil come from?
God knows what is good and what is evil. Sometimes we pray for "snakes", but God knows they would not help us, so he gives us bread. It is easier, however, to learn what is good, ask for it, and God will grant it. That is when we are in best communion with our great and loving parent-God.
Prayer- God, we do not always ask for the best things for us. Thank you for being a patient and gracious Father. Go-Fight-Win. Amen.
Viva Jesus!
