Alumni Bible Study

A Bible study initially set up for alumni of the Senior Sunday School Class at the First United Methodist Church of Lufkin, Texas. It is our hope and our prayer that this study touches the hearts of those who participate and helps spread the love and grace of Our Lord and God. All who want to learn more about God are welcome

1 Timothy 6:17-21

Relax, Read and Reflect
Prayer- Lord, Open my heart and open my mind and help me learn. Go-Fight-Win. Amen.
17Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. 18Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. 19In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life.
20Timothy, guard what has been entrusted to your care. Turn away from godless chatter and the opposing ideas of what is falsely called knowledge, 21which some have professed and in so doing have wandered from the faith. Grace be with you.
Timothy was in Ephesus, and this was a happening place. There was a lot of trade and wealth in this town. There was also a lot of education and refinement. Paul tells Timothy that basically, with great wealth comes great responsibility,(sorry Spiderman.) God blessed the people of that town, and expected them to be generous and willing to share.
No other country in history has been blessed by God more that the United States. We live in a land of great wealth and power. How do we use these gifts God has given us? Do we spend our time and money on others? Why not?
Prayer- Lord, Thank you for giving us all the gifts we enjoy. Help us use them to keep the devil horrified and God glorified. Go-Fight-Win. Amen.
