Alumni Bible Study

A Bible study initially set up for alumni of the Senior Sunday School Class at the First United Methodist Church of Lufkin, Texas. It is our hope and our prayer that this study touches the hearts of those who participate and helps spread the love and grace of Our Lord and God. All who want to learn more about God are welcome

Romans 1:24-32

Relax, Read and Reflect
Prayer- Lord, Open our hearts and open our minds and help us learn. Go-Fight-Win. Amen.
24Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. 25They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen.
26Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. 27In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion.
28Furthermore, since they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, he gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what ought not to be done. 29They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, 30slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; 31they are senseless, faithless, heartless, ruthless. 32Although they know God's righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.
Pagan rituals were widespread in the Roman Empire. These rituals paid homage to earthly gods, and very often involved sexual orgies. These orgies had become homosexual in nature. Gods wrath was to be poured out on the people who heard about the truth, but worshiped a lie.
Homosexuality is a sin, and we should avoid sin. Homosexuals are people, and we should love all people. Paul stresses the wrath on homosexuality here, but also throws in the rest of our sins; murderers, gossips, even people who disobey their parents are subject to God’s wrath. Sometimes it feels "fun" to go against God’s law, to do a little "sinning." We know better, we know the truth. When we casually sin we are still sinning, and that causes God’s wrath against us.
Prayer- Lord, Help me remember Your love always so that I will always want to show You love in return. Help us love all Your children, and remember the truth. Go-Fight-Win. Amen.
