Alumni Bible Study

A Bible study initially set up for alumni of the Senior Sunday School Class at the First United Methodist Church of Lufkin, Texas. It is our hope and our prayer that this study touches the hearts of those who participate and helps spread the love and grace of Our Lord and God. All who want to learn more about God are welcome

Romans 2:25-29

Relax, Read and Reflect
Prayer- Lord, Open our hearts and open our minds and help us learn. Go- Fight-Win. Amen.
25Circumcision has value if you observe the law, but if you break the law, you have become as though you had not been circumcised. 26If those who are not circumcised keep the law's requirements, will they not be regarded as though they were circumcised? 27The one who is not circumcised physically and yet obeys the law will condemn you who, even though you have the[

] written code and circumcision, are a lawbreaker.
28A man is not a Jew if he is only one outwardly, nor is circumcision merely outward and physical. 29No, a man is a Jew if he is one inwardly; and circumcision is circumcision of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the written code. Such a man's praise is not from men, but from God.
Jews were set apart from gentiles by a physical mark. Paul is saying that the physical mark is not what makes a Jew, it is observing God’s law. If they have the outward appearance of a Jew but do not observe the law, they are not one of God’s people.
The same for being a Christian, a follower of Christ. If we have the outward appearance but not the inward, we are not a Christian, we are a poser. It is not the baptism that makes us am part of the church, it is the love and acceptance of God. It is not the jewelry or bumper stickers that show God we love him, it is our actions. Being a Christian is not an external sign, it is an internal belief.
Prayer- Lord, help us all look inward at our lives. Help us remember that we show the world Your love not by the symbols we wear, but by the things we do. Go-Fight-Win. Amen.
