Alumni Bible Study

A Bible study initially set up for alumni of the Senior Sunday School Class at the First United Methodist Church of Lufkin, Texas. It is our hope and our prayer that this study touches the hearts of those who participate and helps spread the love and grace of Our Lord and God. All who want to learn more about God are welcome

Romans 3:9-20

Relax, Read and Reflect.
Prayer- Lord, Open our hearts and open our minds and help us learn. Go-Fight-Win. Amen.
No One is Righteous
9What shall we conclude then? Are we any better[
a]? Not at all! We have already made the charge that Jews and Gentiles alike are all under sin. 10As it is written: "There is no one righteous, not even one; 11there is no one who understands, no one who seeks God. 12All have turned away, they have together become worthless; there is no one who does good, not even one."[b] 13"Their throats are open graves; their tongues practice deceit."[c] "The poison of vipers is on their lips."[d] 14"Their mouths are full of cursing and bitterness."[e] 15"Their feet are swift to shed blood; 16ruin and misery mark their ways, 17and the way of peace they do not know."[f] 18"There is no fear of God before their eyes."[g]
19Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be silenced and the whole world held accountable to God. 20Therefore no one will be declared righteous in his sight by observing the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of sin.
Footnotes:
Romans 3:9 Or worse
Romans 3:12 Psalms 14:1-3; 53:1-3; Eccles. 7:20
Romans 3:13 Psalm 5:9
Romans 3:13 Psalm 140:3
Romans 3:14 Psalm 10:7
Romans 3:17 Isaiah 59:7,8
Romans 3:18 Psalm 36:1
I am including the footnotes on these verses to help us see what scripture Paul is quoting. It helps a lot , especially if you look at the scriptures referenced.
No one is righteous, no one is better than the rest of the world. On the flip side, none of us are worse. Re-read the scripture quoted; does any of these apply to you? These are pretty extreme, but have you ever hurt someone with just you tone of voice? Are you easy to anger,(ouch) and slow to forgive? If so, you are not evil-just human. There is good news! Even though we all act in ways that hurt others and hurt God, God still loves us and will always forgive us. All we need to do is ask.
Prayer- Lord, forgive us our sins-and help us forgive others. Go- Fight-Win. Amen.
