Matthew 5:8-10
Prayer- Lord, open our hearts and open our minds and help us learn. Go-Fight-Win. Amen.
8Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. 9Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God. 10Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Jesus continues to teach a radical message. The Jewish crowd of the day thought that heaven is reached by political power and authority given by the priests. Jesus tells the crowd that heaven is near, so naturally they want to know what is required. He tells them that faith in the Lord is the main ingredient, not faith in the church. Radical!
What has changed? Do we want to be pure of heart, or do we want to live a worldly life. It depends on what your goal is. Jesus says the blessing of heaven are for those who are pure of heart. And peacemakers? They are weak and will be run over by the enemy. We now believe that if we do not fight our enemies where they live we will have to fight them in our homes. Who wants to be a peacemaker?
Peacemakers are not just in international affairs. Many times people can get sideways with each other over silly things. We need wise and faithful people to step in and show us what we are angry and fighting over. People who are persecuted will be rewarded, more on that tomorrow.
Prayer- Lord, help us all to be pure and wise. Let us desire peace in our lives and our actions. Go-Fight-Win. Amen.
Viva Jesus!
