Alumni Bible Study

A Bible study initially set up for alumni of the Senior Sunday School Class at the First United Methodist Church of Lufkin, Texas. It is our hope and our prayer that this study touches the hearts of those who participate and helps spread the love and grace of Our Lord and God. All who want to learn more about God are welcome

Matthew 6:5-8

Relax, Read and Reflect.
Prayer- Lord, Open our hearts and open minds and help us learn. Go-Fight-Win. Amen.
Prayer
5"And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. 6But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. 7And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. 8Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.
Prayer is communication with God-your Father. I have also heard lately that prayer is communion with God. Okay, I am fine with that definition as well. Either way, you would not want to have communion or communication with your earthly father by going to the corner and making the exchange a Shakespearean recital. For good communication, we go to a private and quite area. Sometimes we do so surrounded by family and friends, so sometimes it is fine to pray with friends and family. Prayer is not a show, so Jesus wants us to remember that. That may not seem very revolutionary, but the people of his day needed to know this. How about us today? Do we need this reminder?
Prayer- Lord, We want and desire real prayer, real communication, real communion. Thank you for listening and participating. Go-Fight-Win. Amen.
Viva Jesus!
